Name of Stars in Leo Constellation

Are you an astronomy buff? If you are, you may wonder about the names of the

stars in the Leo constellation. The stories related to stars are intriguing,

and it is fun to know a few of the facts. Even if you are just beginning to

develop an interest in the night sky, you will find this interesting.

The main star of Leo is Regulus, which is the heart of the lion because of its

position in the breast. Regulus is a triple star that is flushed white and

ultramarine. It was earlier called Rex, meaning king. Twenty other stars

outshine Regulus in the heavens, but it is still regarded as king because it

is the brightest and best placed of the stars in Leo.

Denebola is a blue star positioned in the hair at the end of the tail of Leo.

This is a second magnitude star, whose name comes from the Arabic “Al Dhanad

al Asad” which translates to “the tail of the lion”.

Zosma is a star that is also located near the tail. It is a second magnitude

triple star that is colored yellow, blue and violet. Zosma represents the back

of the lion.

Other names of stars in the Leo constellation include Al Jabbah and Adhafera,

which are both positioned in the mane of Leo. Both are third magnitude double

stars. Al Jabbah is distinctively colored orange and greenish-yellow, and is

the brightest of the two stars in the mane.

Algenubi represents the mouth of Leo, and is a third magnitude star that is

yellow in color. This stars influence is said to be bold and daring, with

arrogant and cruel qualities.

Leo is a stunning constellation that has the fastest of all meteor showers.

This usually appears in the Leo constellation around the middle of November.

If you are interested in viewing Leo, the optimum time to do this is during

March.

Enjoy your sky viewing, and brag to your friends that you now know the names
